Economic Ministry has announced the deadline to file applications with the job center for the income support allowance.
The aim of income support is to provide financial support to the simple whose whim lost their livelihoods after being affected by the COVID-19. People whom are have been laid off, suspended on-pay leave or forced to accept pay cuts from March 1st would be eligible for the allowance. This allowance would be only provided for three months period with April, May and June.
The Economic Ministry has announced a deadline for those whom have not yet to filed for the application. People who are employed situation was affected by March 1 to April 30 needs to file an application by May 30. People whose employment situation was affected from May 1 to May 30 will have to file an application by June 7. The month of June 1 to June 30 will have to file by July 7.
This income support would provide MVR 5000 for everyone who has been laid off or either has lost their jobs. While those who have pay cuts will be eligible for the allowance if their reduced pay is lower than MVR 5,000 and even if they reduced pay is lower than MVR 5,000 these people would not be eligible for dull allowance but the difference.
This would also apply to people with additional income source and if that additional income source is lower than MVR 5000 per month the applicants will not be eligible for full allowance but would receive the difference. If the additional income is more than MVR 5000 per month this application would not be eligible for the income support allowance.
Meanwhile, self-employed individuals are eligible for allowance was well. As per policy self-employed individuals would receive an income for those income whom has been adversely affected starting from 1 March onwards due to COVID-19. These people would receive income support. However, the same additional income policy would apply for self-employed people as well.
These income allowances are currently applicable for Maldivian with the ages between 18 years to 65 years for those are locally employed until the 1st March 2020 are eligible for the allowance.
