The Japanese government on Thursday provides an MVR 21,740,400 grant aid package to assistance to the Maldives.
In reference to the following aid, Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid had stated the following aid package was secured through the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and aimed at assisting the Maldives to overcome to the challenges and country to recover from the current situation.
The Maldivian Government had thanked the Japanese government for its aid and UNDP help secure funds for the government.
Also, the discussion is underway between both countries to increase the capacities of health services providers as the country battles to stop the spread of the virus.
Japan has always been one of the most important bilateral partners for several decades. The Japanese government has invested in infrastructure and climate adaptation projects as well. This marks the second aid provided by the Japanese government during this pandemic.
