Maldives Association of Travel Agents and Tour Operators have raised concerns over the new Maldives safe tourism guidelines.
In a statement, released by the association it raised concerns over on the approach of reopening and raised concerns on the approach to re-enter into the global market. The association noted it has a negative fiscal impact could be seen over the years if the policy is passed and numerous negative reactions are seen by this policy which paints an unwelcoming image of the destination.
The association furthermore noted that this draft was shared with the general public without any discussion with stakeholders. Even though several media might have claimed it was drafted after discussion with stakeholders. But the association has denied the claims.
MATATO also said it should not depart from the 40 years of history welcoming guests and also said targeting large revenue generation is not the best approach but should have a balanced approach rather than hindering the industry any further.
The association has called upon the government to go into meaningful dialogue with stakeholders and review the guidelines SOP to facilitate the border reopening with the national recovery process.
