
Parliament Economic Committee has passed to collect US$ 8 from every tourist arriving to the Maldives when the country re-opens.
In a virtual meeting held by the economic committee today to discuss the safety tourism policy. The committee approved to look into the following suggestion made so far regarding the draft sent by the tourism ministry. The main focus was including the USD 8 tax to be collected from every tourist which was proposed by MP Central Maafannu Ibrahim Rasheed. The proposal was supported by opposition MP Ahmed Shiyam of Naifaru constituency.
Another proposal from MP for Dhuvaafaru Ismail Ahmed to send the final draft to all stakeholders was also put during the meeting as well.
The following two proposed were passed with all seven MP’s whom were present in the committee meeting. Now the following would be reviewed by the authorise.
Several MP’s criticised passing such following proposals from committee level without receiving a final draft.
The Maldives has stopped issuing the on-arrival visa due to the global pandemic. This has put a huge toll on the countries economy and now the country is targeting to reopen the between June and October.
