
Minister Fayyaz Ismail has confirmed on Wednesday that Maldives government has repatriated 4,300 undocumented expatriates to their home countries.
The economic minister speaking at the program hosted in public services media TV program show Raajje Miadhu has stated that Bangladeshi workers whom made up the majority of migrant population in the Maldives has been repatriated in collaboration with Bangladeshi government.
The minister had confirmed the reparations were done voluntarily. He noted that 4300 undocumented workers has been repatriated in end of July and 1600 workers has already requested to return back home.
He also stated that the repatriations were voluntary and also noted that 5,000 undocumented migrant workers by the end of August. The minister has confirmed 20,000 undocumented migrant workers would be send back by the end of the this year.
Maldives immigration has initiated the program to facilitate the repatriation of expatriate workers. The programs would remain open until the end of this year.
