Health Emergency Operations Center HEOC spokesperson Dr. Fathimath Nazla Rafeeq on Wednesday has confirmed another tourist have tested positive for COVID-19.
Speaking at a press conference Dr. Nazla has stated that the tourist tested positive on Tuesday and the individual had traveled to OBLU Select At Sangeli. Dr. Nazla stated that the tourist still remains on the resort and that authorities are working to test the person’s family.
This marks second tourist to test positive for coronavirus among-st the tourist arrivals after reopened its borders for international travel on July 15. The first tourist tested positive was on the 27th of July and the tourist is confirmed to be an American national.
As the Maldives does not require any tourist to produce any certificate to prove that they test negative test result for new coronavirus or be test upon arrival. However, several airlines has request passengers to produce a negative test certificate prior to boarding there flights.
Until now HPA has reported that 148 cases of COVID-19 in the Maldives which 146 were confirmed cases from capital city while two cases where confirmed from local islands.
