
Shangri-La Villigili Resort closes indefinitely as many of its employees loses their jobs.
The resort is operated in Addu Atoll which is run under a joint venture company named Addu Investment Pvt Ltd which is a company formed by the previous government and Shangri-La Maldives Limited.
A letter released by General Manager of the Resorts Rahim Flynn to employees has stated that the resort has been closed since April due to COVID-19 and the resort had started to work in restart operations during this time while maintaining safety of employee’s and tourist.
Even though given the current circumstances the operations of the resort cannot recommence operations which leads the management to ceases operations indefinitely.
Its been notified that employees required for maintenance would kept on the island while others would be let go the letter states and its been noted that its a difficult decision for the management.
Since border re-opening on July 15 has not made much difference as tourist numbers not seem to been picking up. However small number of arrivals to the Maldives has been seen doing this time.
