The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has announced on Monday that the government has plan to deferred the rent payment for government leased flats.
The government plans to defer the rent for another 6-months for the flat in Greater Male’ Region and other Islands for the March to ease financial burdens of tenants over the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The following initial deferments deadline on 31, 2020 and the housing ministry has announced in a notice on the government gazette that rent payments will be further extended from September until the end of November as per multiple requests has been received.
However, tenants are required to pay the maintenance fee during this three-months period. The extension would also be added to their lease agreement the ministry further noted. According to the Ministry the Tenants need to apply for the following extension on rent deferment through email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The extension can be submitted of their National ID and lease agreement number before October 15,2020 at 1300 hrs.
In accordance with the new rule the government will also be deferring rent and lease payments for islands and land leased for tourism. Its been also has been announced various loans payments delays.
