Maldives Ports Limited chairman Mohamed Zaki (Nazaki Zaki) has resigned from his post. The resignation comes after 4 days blowing the whistle on an MVR 8 Million corruption within the company.
Zaki blew the whistle on the corruption through his Twitter account on Wednesday. He pointed out the corruption occurred with fuel trading and the company board failed to support efforts to suspend the employees involved in the corruption.
The chairman had put his resignation on Monday.
MPL now has said the set employees have now been suspended an unspecified number of employees suspended of involvement in the corruption and has requested the police, audit general office and anti-corruption commission for further investigation.
